I was born and raised in Calvert County, where I chose to live, raise my 3 children and operate my family farm. It truly was the “Land of Pleasant Living” when I was growing up with a thriving farm community, crabbing, fishing, church picnics and a sense of community.
For over 40 years, I have dedicated myself to this County, serving on many boards and committees working for a better future. Yet over the past couple of years, something has changed. Civility and transparency is disappearing from our government. The Comprehensive Plan’s visions and goals are being abandoned. Debt is rising and our economic development has slowed creating deficits in our budget and we are losing a sense of who we are.
Our top concerns are traffic, school safety, unplanned growth and maintaining a safe and healthy environment. Addressing these issues will not be easy, BUT:
I believe, if we work together, it can be done.
I believe in actual rural character with prosperous farms and vibrant Town Centers.
I believe in a thriving tourism industry sharing our rich resources and historical treasures for increased revenue.
I believe in creating employment opportunities and building communities with a vested interest in our County.
I believe we can still be the “Land of Pleasant Living”.
My name is Susie Hance-Wells and I believe in Calvert County.
